What is the purpose of the Great Basin Tribal Forum on Low-Carbon Energy?

The purpose of the event is to bring together Tribal leaders, staff, and community members from across the Great Basin region to discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with the development of low-carbon energy. The event will offer opportunities to share lessons learned, build relationships and networks, gain actionable tools and skills, and identify priority next steps. The Forum is a space for Tribal communities to share their experiences and insights, and is not designed to serve industry or research purposes.

Who is organizing the event?

The Great Basin Tribal Forum is being organized by Dr. Sophia Borgias, Dr. Meg Mills-Novoa and Dr. Elena Louder, with all planning overseen by a Tribal Advisory Committee with representatives from across the region:

Who is funding the event?

The event is funded by a grant from the Sloan Foundation, a not-for-profit grant-making institution that supports research and education.

Who is invited to attend?

Tribal leaders, staff and community members from across the Great Basin are invited to attend. Individuals from other relevant organizations may attend, however, space is limited and Tribal members will be given priority. Members of the press will be invited to attend the Forum's closing session.

How do I know if I am the designated representative of my Tribe?

We have asked the Tribal Council to identify a Tribal leader, member, and/or staff to attend on behalf of the Tribe.

If I am not the designated representation of my Tribe, can I still register?

How much does it cost to attend and is financial support available?

How do I book lodging?

Funding is available to support the attendance of speakers and at least one representative from each Tribe in the Great Basin, covering travel, food, and lodging expenses, as well as a modest honorarium. There is additional financial support available for a limited number of spaces. Please indicate on the registration form if you would like to be considered for financial support. If you would like to attend and are able to cover your own expenses ($200 registration fee + lodging), please indicate so on the registration

If you are an invited speaker, have been designated by a Tribal Council to represent a Tribe, or have confirmed with the organizers that you will receive financial support, enter your travel details in the registration form, and we will book your lodging for you. Your name will be on a rooming list at the reception at Peppermill Resort Casino. A credit card will be needed at check in to cover incidentals.

If you are paying for your own lodging, please indicate so on the registration form, and you will receive a link where you can book your own lodging at a reduced rate.

All meals will be included and served on site at the Peppermill Resort Casino. This includes breakfast, lunch and dinner on September 17th, and breakfast and lunch on November 18th.
